Tips for Choosing Colors for Porch Decor

by Kari Gibbs on July 17, 2024
Choosing colors for your projects can be one of the hardest decisions.

Let's talk about how to choose colors for your porch signs. In these pictures, we show the difference in painting this on a light background vs. a dark background.

Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing your colors for porch decor:
1. Consider your surroundings - Pick a color that complements the color of your house and take into account your landscaping. Tying in the colors from your garden with your decor can really help tie it all together.
2. Seasonal themes - Choose bright and vibrant colors for the spring and summer, warm and earthy tones for the fall, cool colors for winter and holiday themed reds and greens for Christmas.
3. Contrast and readability - Think about contrasting colors when choosing. You'll want your letters to pop off your background so they can be seen. Light on dark or dark on light work well together.
4. Do a little research - Look on Pinterest and get some inspiration. Use a color wheel to find complementary or contrasting colors.
5. Personal style - Choose what makes you happy!! This is decor for your home!

THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT TIP!!! I sell most of my porch signs at the farmers’ market, and I initially had trouble figuring out a universal color palette that would appeal to everyone’s tastes. To solve this, I started asking people who came to my booth where they lived and discovered that most of them lived within a mile of the market. I then drove around these areas, observed the color palettes of the homes and plants, and adjusted the colors on my signs accordingly. I have to say, this approach has been a great success, and I now have a waiting list for my signs THANK YOU!
